The fire which was recorded to start at about 09:39 pm last night, took place in Ekurede Itsekiri along the Olu of Warri Palace road, the building popularly known as Alero's Corner.

Papawarri.com was at the fire scene and we observed that the Delta State Fire Services Department that was supposed to aid in putting off the fire arrived at the fire scene with empty tanks, youths in the area did all they could to contain the fire but the building itself was totally torched, thank God no life was lost..........more photos below

It's a boy for Prince William and Duchess Kate Middleton

Prince William’s wife, Kate, has given birth to a prince, who is now third in line to the British throne.

The child was born Monday, after many Britons woke up to the news that Kate, also known as the Duchess of Cambridge, had gone into labor with the couple’s first child.

The birth announcement, via a press release from Kensington Palace, said the boy was born at 4:24 p.m. weighing 8 pounds, 6 ounces. William was present for the birth, the statement said. The announcement did not include a name for the future monarch, though one is expected to be announced in the next few days.

FG under pressure to legalise homosexuality–Foreign Minister

The Federal Government has said it is under pressure from the international community to sign the Gay Rights Bill into law in Nigeria.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Olugbenga Ashiru, stated this in Abuja on Friday at an interactive session with the diplomatic corps, even as he accused the international community of hypocrisy.

He insisted that Nigeria would not sign the Gay Rights bill or abolish the death penalty without reviewing the constitution.

Inmate Refuses To Leave Court Premises After He Was Set Free

It was a pathetic drama in the Owerri High Court premises Friday morning when an inmate who is believed to have awaited trial in prison for upwards of seven years was acquitted of any wrong doing and discharged by an Owerri Magistrate Court.

According to CrimeFacts, instead of the usual jubilation that follow any ruling of ‘discharged and acquitted’, the inmate, Sylvester Obata (not real names); wearing a long face, headed straight for the Prison van that brought them to court, only to be intercepted by a prison guard who reminded him he was free to go home.

Two Female NYSC Corps Members Set Ablaze In Rivers State

Two corps members serving in Community Secondary school Iddo in Asari-Toru LGA of Rivers State were yesterday night severely burnt beyond recognition by unknown persons who attacked them in their room.

Report given to us this morning by another serving corps member in the area said the two corps members who are both females were locked in after the attackers had poured fuel in their room and then set the room on fire.

One of the corper's name is Okey Winifred a batch C corps member while the other whose name could not be ascertained as at time of this report is a new batch B corps member that just left camp and reported at the PPA few days ago.

In what appeared to be a suicide mission, a 45-year-old woman, identified as Ruth Amusan, allegedly jumped into lagoon at Leventist bus stop on Lagos Island yesterday and got drowned.

Witnesses said the woman jumped into the lagoon about noon, after ruminating by the bank of the lagoon for hours.

The Federal Government to create five million jobs by 2015

The federal government has concluded plans to create five million jobs by 2015 through the expansion of the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Olusegun Aganga, disclosed this  in Abeokuta during a validation workshop on the revised policy on micro, small and medium enterprises and the launch of National Enterprises Development Programme(NEDEP) and the Ogun State Council on MSMEs.

Lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly have warned one of its members –Evans Bapakaye Bipi to desist from impersonating the Speaker of the House, Otelemaba Amachree. The lawmakers made the declaration in a press statement signed by 26 members stating the position of the majority of members on the recent crisis that rocked the Assembly.

The statement chronicled the events leading to the purported impeachment claim by 5 members of the House and urged the public to disregard the false claims.

Senate Rejects Autonomy for LGs, Okays Marriage for Underage Women

The much-awaited voting on recommendations of the Senate Committee on the Review of the Constitution took place on Tuesday with the parliament throwing out the recommendation of a six-year single term for the president and governors.

It also rejected autonomy for local governments as well as the moves to separate the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) from that of the minister of justice.

On its part, the House of Representatives, which was billed to begin debate on the report of its Constitution Review Committee Tuesday, has shifted it, following disagreement over the procedure to adopt in carrying out the exercise.

Pregnant former Olympian suddenly collapses and dies in restaurant

Heavily pregnant former Olympian, 26 year old Meskerem Legesse, suddenly collapsed and died while having lunch with her two year old son in a restaurant in Connecticut on Monday July 15th.

The Ethiopia runner, who was three weeks from her due date (pictured above minutes before collapsing) was given CPR at the restaurant before an ambulance rushed her to a hospital where she was declared dead. Fortunately the doctors were able to save her baby.

The cause of death was unclear but her friend told reporters that the professional runner had suffered heart problems in the past and that's why she retired early from sports. So sad! RIP, Meskere

Woman Roasts 7-Yr-Old Step-Son’s Hand

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a woman, Mrs Aminot Otun, for roasting the right hand of her seven-year-old step-son,  Awwal Otun, last Thursday.

Awwal’s hand was allegedly roasted for adding drops of liquid disinfectant to his bath water.

According to Ngozi Ekwerike-Okoro, President, Child to Child Network, a Non Governmental Organisation, NGO, a distressed call from one of  Otun’s neighbours at 59, Suenu Street, Surulere, Lagos saved Awwal’s life.

Chris Brown's probation revoked

A judge in LA yesterday revoked Chris Brown's probation after the L.A County District Attorney filed legal documents asking the judge to revoke it and immediately remand Chris Brown into custody, according to a report by TMZ. The D.A asked for the revocation based on charges being filed against Brown in connection with a hit-and-run in May but fortunately for Chris Brown, even though his probation was revoked, he wasn't taken into custody, which is sometimes the case.

Baby born with prayer rosary round her neck in Niger state

According to a story by Nigerian Tribune, a baby girl was born with prayer rosary wrapped around her neck yesterday July 14th in Bida, Bida LGA of Niger State.

The incident, which occurred around 2.00 p.m at Kotuworo area of the town, close to the home of Alhaji Bello Mansaba, the man with 86 wives, was said to have caused uproar, with people thronging the town to have a look at the baby born to Mrs Adijat and Mallam Issa, both of whom hail from Lama, Kwara State.

FG should disband B’Haram amnesty panel – Northern Christians

The Christian Association of Nigeria in the 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory on Sunday asked the Federal Government to disband immediately, the Tanimu Turaki-led Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Peaceful Resolution of Security Challenges in the North.

It said the  committee was deceiving  Nigerians by claiming that the government  had reached  a ceasefire deal  with members of  the Islamist militant group, Boko Haram. It said with the claim of of “no deal” by the leader of the  sect,  Abubakar Shekau, on Saturday, the committee had failed in its duty and therefore had no reason to remain in place.

2 church band members arraigned over the possession of human skull in Lagos

The police have arraigned a man and a woman before the Surulere Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, for allegedly being in possession of human head.

49-year-old Samson Adeneye and Oyerinde Olawunmi, 48, were arrested at the St. Peter Cherubim and Seraphim band at Moses Adebisi Street, Ketu after a human skull was said to have been recovered from the ceiling of the church.
