Murder: Court Jails 4 Internet Fraudsters Over Killing Of Couple

ABEOKUTA — An Ogun State High Court sitting in Isabo, yesterday, remanded four internet fraudsters popularly called Yahoo Boys in prison for allegedly killing a couple, Muritala Salami and his wife, Sabiat Salami in Owode‑Egba in Obafemi‑Owode Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects, Kazeem Oseni, 28; Saheed Akinyele, 35; Idowu Oguntade, 37 and Dotun Sobukola, 33, were arraigned on a 14‑count charge bordering on conspiracy, attempted murder, unlawful killing and belonging to an unlawful society.
The prosecutor, Inspector Rotimi Adeniji, told the court that the accused persons committed the offence on August 7, 2013 between 7pm and 8pm in Owode‑Egba area of Ogun State.
According to Adeniji, the accused conspired with others, now at large, to commit the crime.
He said: “The accused and other members of the group, now at large, belonged to an unlawful society known as ‘Federal Mopol’.”
However, the court did not take pleas of the accused, despite the effort by their counsel, Ade Ogungbade and Anthony Bukola.
The chief judge, Olanrewaju Majekodunmi, however, ordered that the accused should be kept in the prisons pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The judge adjourned the case till October 6.


The court also, yesterday, remanded in prison, a 33‑year‑old man, Jimoh Owolabi, for allegedly killing his neighbour’s daughter.
The state counsel, Funke Fakolade, told the court that the killing was allegedly carried out on May 2, 2013 at Sagbesona compound, Idofoi, Ayetoro Road in Abeokuta.
She said the accused conspired with one Akeem, now at large, and was facing a two‑count charge of conspiracy and murder.
Fakolade explained that the accused and his accomplice abducted his neighbour’s seven‑year‑old daughter, Timilehin Abiona, killed her and cut her head off.
She said: “Owolabi killed the little girl in his room and took her body to the forest to cut off her head. The accused and his accomplice were stopped by the policemen on duty along Odo‑Irori for a search and were consequently caught with the head of the girl in a polythene bag.”
The court refused to take the plea of Owolabi as presented by his counsel, Mariam Lawal.
Justice Hezekiah Solanke remanded the accused in the Oba prison in Obafemi‑Owode Local Government Area of the state.
Solanke adjourned the case till October 15, pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
